Lightweight Node

Definition of
Lightweight Node

A Lightweight Node contains only a partial list of a blockchain operation, which usually includes just the block headers, instead of its entire transaction history. Using a method known as Simplified Payment Verification (SPV), it only validates transactions included in a block without the need to download the whole blockchain. While lightweight nodes are easy to run and maintain, they will not function unless they are connected to a full node.
