Hard Fork

Definition of

Hard Fork

A Hard Fork is a type of software update in the blockchain network where the changes made in the protocol makes it incompatible with older versions of the blockchain. This is done in such a way that it amends the consensus rules (i.e. block size, mining algo, consensus protocol). One example is Ethereum’s upcoming Casper update.
